golden

Friday, The National Underground Railroad Freedom Center , held a reception for the opening of their new exhibit, Listen:Music of Change-Hymns,Blues and Rock .
 I was thrilled to be hired to provide centerpieces. The cocktail party "A Solid Gold Evening" was a nod to the music exhibit. I was told they wanted to use rich colors-oranges,reds and of course yellows-to work not only with the night's theme, but to complement the beautiful tapestry that hangs on the wall in the grand hall.

I choose to go with bi-color dahlias, the most gorgeous garden roses{fuego}, orange pincushion protea for a little bit of fun, green cymbidium orchids for a pop of color, freesia(because it's one of my faves!) and fern curls for texture. The centerpieces were in gold cubes and tied with a black satin bow{a fun play on black tie,no?}

I was dying over the color of the dahlias!! So vibrant! As much as I love creating beautiful things for weddings{and I do!!!} I love when someone gives you colors or a theme and gives you the freedom to make something beautiful for them.

The organizers of the event graciously invited me to attend the party. They were still setting up when I arrived for delivery so it was nice to see my little creations in action:)

There was an awesome jazz band, the exhibit,which highlights the role music plays in periods of change, was terrific, and of course...the food!

I couldn't leave without taking a photo of one these babies doing their thing, gettin' their centerpiece on;)
It was a wonderful event that I was happy to be a part of and a really fun evening!
